Chandigarh, December 4
The Punjab and Haryana High Court has asked the DGPs of Punjab and Chandigarh to file affidavits on the number of cases involving honour killing and pending investigation or trial.
Justice Arun Kumar Tyagi of the High Court also directed the DGPs to spell out the steps taken for securing fast-track investigation and trial of such cases. They were also directed to give details of the measures for protection of survivor-spouse and other important witnesses "in the completion of chain of circumstantial evidence incriminating the accused responsible for commission of the heinous offences".
The directions came less than two months after similar directions were issued in context of Haryana.
Justice Tyagi added the matter concerned Punjab and Chandigarh. As such, it would be appropriate that Punjab and Chandigarh be impleaded as respondents.
